POOLE Pirates have postponed the first leg of the Championship Knockout Cup final against Oxford Cheetahs.
The meeting was due to take place at Wimborne Road this evening, but with rain forecast for most of the day, an early decision was made to call off the race.
Pirates boss Dan Ford told the Poole Speedway website: “The weather forecasts are far from favourable and the chances of the track being even rideable is remote, and we certainly want this meeting to be the epic that it promises.
“So, we have taken the decision to defer the meeting until next Wednesday and with the early announcement, hopefully any travel plans our colleagues from Oxford, and those Poole supporters who come from outside the region, may have made can be cancelled.”

The home leg at Sandy Lane tomorrow evening is now the first one.
Oxford Speedway said in a statement: “The fixture at Oxford Stadium tomorrow at 7.30pm now becomes the first leg of the Cab Direct Knockout Cup final between Oxford Cheetahs and Poole Pirates. The meeting will be the 34th and final meeting completed at Cowley this season.”
Cheetahs are involved in their first Knockout Cup final for 27 years, while they are seeking to win the cup outright for the first time in 39 years.
